 The Transportation Civil Designer supports the planning, design, and delivery of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects. This role works closely with Project Managers and senior engineering staff to prepare design plans, technical documents, and project deliverables in accordance with agency standards.

The Civil Designer plays a key role in transforming concepts into constructible designs while supporting KAD Engineering’s commitment to quality, collaboration, and technical excellence.

Transportation Design & Drafting :

•  Prepare civil engineering design drawings for roadway and infrastructure improvement projects.
• Develop plan sheets, profiles, cross-sections, and construction details using industry-standard design software.
• Assist with preliminary and final design phases for transportation projects.

Engineering Analysis & Documentation: 

•  Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with cost estimates.
• Support preparation of construction specifications and design reports.
• Assist with preliminary engineering tasks such as traffic studies, geometric evaluations, and intersection design studies.
   

 Coordination & Project Support: 

•  Work closely with Project Managers, engineers, and internal disciplines to support multi-faceted transportation projects.
• Assist with agency coordination and responses to review comments.
• Support client interactions as needed under the direction of senior staff.
   

 Standards & Compliance: 

• Ensure design work complies with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, CDOT, County DOT, and municipal standards.
• Maintain accurate design documentation and follow established QA/QC procedures.

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
• 0–4 years of relevant transportation or civil design experience.
• Experience supporting projects for IDOT, Illinois Tollway, CDOT, County DOTs, or local municipalities preferred.
• Proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads Designer preferred.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
